Fitbit arrived at CES 2015 with two new fitness and activity trackers, Charge HR and Surge. Both of the trackers feature caller ID and sleep monitoring, along with visible stats and a few other welcomed upgrades.
The new devices were announced in October 2014, but officially hit the market at CES. According to the company, “With Fitbit Charge HR and Fitbit Surge, features like heart rate tracking are made simpler by being continuous and automatic so the technology works no matter what you’re doing.”
Charge HR
The Charge HR features a bunch of activity-tracking options, including steps, distance, calories, and metrics such as active minutes and steps climbed. The Charge HR also includes an additional exclusive featured called “PurePlus” which offers continuous heart-rate tracking alongside workout intensity monitoring and calorie burn.
Charge HR is capable of running for five days with a full charge, and it is priced at $150 in the US, $180 in Australia, and £120 in the UK.
As the name suggests, this monitor is an upgrade from the Charge activity and sleep wristband which offered basic activity tracking and Caller ID.
Surge
Fitbit Surge is a combination of all the company’s other product specifications. The wristband has a much larger screen and a clean design. The company calls the Surge a a “fitness smartwatch” that comes equipped with a large monochrome LCD, optical heart rate monitor, ambient light sensor, altimeter and the usual assortment of motion sensors. The Surge also features GPS tracking for more accurate distance measurements and route plotting via iOS.
Surge is also capable of connecting with a user’s iPhone to control music playback, check caller ID, view messages and display notifications.
The Fitbit Surge is the company’s most expensive fitness tracker with a price tag of $249.95.
