Rovio’s head of games has exited the company. Jami Laes and the Angry Bird’s developer parted ways at an undisclosed time. The move comes at a time when Rovio is struggling to replicate the massive success of its Angry Bird’s franchise. To increase profits the company has licensed the rights to its popular game for everything from board games and pillow cases to movie’s and even an animated TV series.
The company has struggled to find new success in an increasingly robust mobile environment. Rovio’s executives recently announced plans to layoff 130 employees or 14 percent of the company’s overall workforce.
Laes said during a Wednesday announcement that he left the company a short time ago. He then announced plans to launch a new startup. Details for the new company have not been revealed at this time.
Rovio has not yet commented on the departure of the company’s head of games.
Do you think Rovio will produce another massive hit, or is the game developer grasping at straws with its recent attempts at replicating the success of Angry Birds?
