Kakao, the South Korean company seems to be making the right kind of buzz. The recent update is that the company which has seen a staggering growth with Kakao Home, a Facebook Home style launcher app in its home country, has clocked one million downloads (News Source: TNW). The news comes after the last week’s news that the app crossed 500K downloads in a matter of 9 days after its launch. A feat that Facebook achieved after 10 days for its launch of Facebook Home.
Korea’s Kakao Home Sees More Than One Million Downloads In 13 Days
The latest figures of Kakao Home has been listed on its Google Play page and these are impressive numbers considering the app was launched only 13 days ago. The app is being compared to Facebook Home which recently registered a million downloads after a month. However, Kakao Home has been rich feature-wise which provides a customized home screen experience on Android devices with widgets, notifications and deeper integration of the main Kakao Talk messaging service.
With its launch, the service was an instant hit in its local market. The service got a 4.1 star rating from more than 1300 reviews within a few days. One of the reasons for its instant success could be the availability of the app on all the Android devices that run Android 4.0 or upwards. A significant move by Kakao since Android holds a dominant 90 percent share of smartphones in Korea.
On the other hand, Facebook Home has run into obstacles with the HTC First, the only smartphone to come pre-installed with Facebook Home. With a delayed UK launch, it is now known that Facebook has decided to postpone all pre-orders and shipments indefinitely. The company wants to focus on making Home better, stated an official statement.
One of the reasons of popularity of Kakao Home has been its availability on all Android devices – a feature that has not been available with Facebook. However, both Facebook and Kakao are yet to share active users on their apps. And moreover Kakao Home service is yet to show its popularity in international shores.
