Club Nintendo is shutting down. Nintendo on Tuesday announced plans to close its rewards program. The loyalty platform went live six years ago in North America.
Using Club Nintendo gamers could earn free items, including downloadable games, posters, and character figures. Those options were earned through loyalty “coins” which buyers collected by registering products and completing surveys.
While Nintendo is getting rid of Club Nintendo, the company plans to release new downloadable content through the official end of the program on June 30. Some of that downloadable content includes Flipnote Studio 3D, which allows users to create and share three dimensional animations.
“We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, told TIME.
If you are a big fan of the Club Nintendo program, don’t fret, the company plans to release a new rewards program in the future. A release date and details for the new program have not yet been revealed.
