GTA V Release Date Officially Pushed Back by RockstarGrand Theft Auto is one of those game titles that literally made history across several generations of gamers. The franchise, which draws its title from the 1977 film of the same name, debuted over fifteen years ago, when the first game in the series was developed and released in 1997. In 2013, gamers around the world, old and young, experienced or entry-level, action and adventure fans alike, are expecting a fifth installment in the game. Much to their disappointment, however, it seems that Grand Theft Auto V will be coming their way later, rather than sooner.
The Plot Thickens
The first signs of a new game in the series were revealed in February 2011, when five websites disclosed information about GTAV having been scheduled for development. Aside from several minor leaks, there was no official confirmation of the game until October that year. The first trailer was released on November 2, 2011, with the official announcement coming in from Rockstar games the following day. Pre-order artwork was leaked almost one year later, in late October 2012, and the release date for spring 2013 was officially announced through a second trailer, on November 14, 2012.
A Release Date, Already?
On January 31, 2013, as audiences were gearing up for the fifth Grand Theft Auto to come their way in a couple of months’ time, Rockstar Games came out with an official announcement regarding the actual release date. Much to everyone’s dismay, the game’s developers announced that the release date was pushed back by nearly half a year, to September 17, 2013. The GTA team acknowledged that some fans might be dismayed to hear such news and apologized for the delay. They also vowed that the final product of the game will be well worth their wait and explained that such an ambitious project would need “a little more polish to be of the standard” that both the producers and the gamers expect it to be.
A Bit of History for Newbies
If you’ve been out playing casual games on FatCatArcade for the past fifteen years and missed out on all the hype surrounding the GTA series, there’s still a change you might enjoy the game anyway – provided you’re the right age and know at least some of the game’s lore. As of yet, there are ten games in the series, as well as four expansion packs that enrich the game’s universe. The game is one of the top sellers in video game history, with 114 million copies sold by September 2011. Among other notable references, the game has managed to recruit major acting talent to voice characters in the game, including Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, Samuel L. Jackson, Jenna Jameson, and Phil Collins. Throughout its history, the game has raised a fair share of controversy, which culminated with the debacle of the Hot Coffee sex mini game in the San Andreas installment. The game also features violence, full frontal nudity, and episodes of drunk driving, which have all led game rating authorities to grant it an M, signaling that the game is only suited for mature audiences.
