Tablets for me have been primarily used for personal fun and never in the business sense. That changed with the opportunity to handle the HP ElitePad 900 64GB, a premium thin and light Windows 8 tablet for business. At first glance, you immediately notice the tablet’s elegant design and touch experience.
The table has a unique accessories ecosystem. The complete suite of the ElitePad includes designed accessories like a full keyboard, docking station and an HP ElitePad Expansion Jacket that extends battery life. I found that this tablet offered great power efficiency and booted up extremely quickly. A standout for me is the docket which allows you to attach a monitor. My experience included all of the accessories which were found to be easy to use, effortless to manage and simple to protect and secure.
HP ElitePad: A Review for the Travel Professional
The durable materials of the ElitePad not only makes it feel lightweight but allows the tablet to last and work dependable everywhere from the office to the not-so-friendly work environment. While not necessarily the ideal place for a meeting, I did find success in my usage of the tablet at the beach. Sometimes you find yourself in not so ideal locations but this tablet held up to the conditions.
The ElitePad is designed to meet military standards testing for vibration, high and low temperature, temperature shock, dust, altitude, drop, shock and humidity. I was informed that there was 115,000 hours of testing. The tablet does hold up well and is strong as I did accidentally whack myself in the head. No damage to me or the tablet. The look and feel of the tablet really shines with its contoured edges, anti-smudge screen and aluminum buttons.
The ElitePad maximizes the viewing space for the traveling businessperson with a 10.1-inch diagonal, 16:10 display. The screen for me was solid. And, again with the docking option you can present a professional lecture. The tablet also supports touch, pen or voice-based input so that the businessperson can work the way that benefits them the most.
The ElitePad offers a familiar set up experience, plus available HP Custom Integration Services, to give the businessperson the satisfactory experience in deploying in existing IT environments. HP Global Series and Services ensure consistent support for business with international operations. For me, there was a quick learning curve. I’m sure there will be for some who have not used Windows 8.
One perk to the tablet is protection with HP Client Security. It cannot be emphasized how important it is to have an enhanced defense against virus attacks and other threats. You get that with HP BIOS Protection and Microsoft Defender. Another one of the tablet’s strengths is that you can manage a fleet easily with Active Directory, domain join, and PXE boot support, along with HP Client Management Solutions. The benefits give IT one less thing to concern themselves over in the work environment.
The HP ElitePad is priced at $799 (here). The docking station is priced at $119. The expansion jacket is priced at $79. The productivity jacket is priced at $199.
