The Mother device from Sen.se was named as an honoree of the 2014 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards, so of course we had to check out the device and its watchful eye. The Mother device is meant to watch over certain aspects of your home and family life, ensuring a better, and slightly more creepy existence.

Mother connects to your home network by way of Ethernet port and is coupled with accompanying mobile sensors called “Cookies” that detect location, movement and temperature.

Each Motion Cookie wirelessly communications with the Mother parent device. They also communicate with each other over a proprietary radio standard (915 MHz frequency band in the US, and 868 MHz in Europe).

Even if a device it out of range, cookies can store up to 10 days of data, which is automatically uploaded when a Mother unit is detected.

Why would someone use Sen.se’s Mother? It can monitor how many steps you take, how far you went on your last job, and even alert parents when their children return home from school. The device can also log how many home objects are currently being used, monitor your homes temperature, and even track your sleep quality.

Mother can also act as a security system, sending text messages, emails, and even phone calls if an intruder enters your home. You can also be alerted to windows that have been opened and to arriving guests or family members.

“Mother is the first true advent of the Internet of Things in everyday life,” said Rafi Haladjian, Founder of Sen.se. “We have made sensors that unobtrusively blend into your life. She offers the knowledge and comfort you want, when and how you want it, all while remaining discreet.”

A starting Mother with one base unit and four cookies will start shipping next month at a cost of $222.
