Ultrabooks don’t have the same allure as they did when they launched in 2011. The “Macbook Air” killers, while popular among some crowds, were ultimately replaced by 2-in-1 hybrid notebooks, tablets, and Chromebooks. Enter CES 2015 and the Samsung Series 9 2015 Edition Ultrabook.

The Series 9 2015 Edition Ultrabook was revealed on the company’s Korea-language blog. The new version of the Ultrabook, like it’s predecessors, focuses on high-end specs and a sleek design that should make aesthetic worried users happy.

While previous Samsung Ultrabook models focused on larger 13.3-inch and 15-inch displays, the new model offers a 12.2-inch screen. The screen real estate also features a high resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 (WQXGA), a brightness of 700 nits, and an adaptive feature that adjusts lighting to the viewing environment. The device is also ultra-light at just 2 pounds.

The Samsung Series 9 2015 Edition Ultrabook comes equipped with a slightly less powerful Intel Core M-5Y10c Broadwell processor instead of Core i5 and i7 options. The system also offers 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid-state storage.

Samsung has also taken a note from the Galaxy S5 by offering a power saving mode that claims a battery life of 12 hours.

The Samsung Series 9 2015 Edition also features Windows 8.1.

Business 2 Community will be heading to CES 2015 where details about pricing and availability will likely surface.

Right now the ultrabook is slated for an Asia release, and with Samsung halting production in Europe and other parts of the world, it will be interesting to see if this new Samsung ultrabook makes its way to the United States or other regions.
